Racing starts at 12 for the kids race and finishes at 3.15 for the seniors. When we promoted in Beauvale we would meet at nine -ish to get the course up and you would typically be there for a good hour after the race taking the course down. However, this depends on how many helpers you've got and how much tape the coure requires.

My guess is that Long Eaton will follow the plan that Rob outlined - it's the way that it's been done at Bramcote Park over the last couple of years.

The organiser will need people to set out the course before the races (between 8am and noon, although setting up on the seniors' course can go on until 2pm), marshall during the races (noon until about 3.15pm) and take the course down at the end of the day (3.15 until about 4/4.30pm).

So, if you are only free in the afternoon then you might be able to do some marshalling and/or help take the course down.

Any help will be appreciated.

And if you are thinking about your final position in the League you will be able to pick up average points if you help on this event.

I spoke to the organiser at the weekend and he is hoping that Beeston CC will be able to provide 5 or 6 volunteers.

Most of the work will be in the morning setting out the course.

He doesn't think that there will much need for lots of marshalls, simply because the course is in one big field.

So if we could get some volunteers to help out a neighbouring club that would be really fantastic.

It could also introduce members to cross: a discipline that is both challenging and fun. And you shouldn't forget that even the young 'uns can ride. My son is 7 now and this is his fourth season.

Spoke to the organiser this evening and he is asking for volunteers who want to help with the set up to get to the venue (see above for details) between 8 and 9am.

If you can't make it then come later and enjoy the spectacle.

Posted on the Brisk Ride post, but can't we do a brisk ride for 50-60 miles after 9am, that way we help the club and we get the ride?

@Stewart - I think you misunderstood slightly - the time of 8-9am is to meet. It takes all morning to set up.

To all doing the club ride why don't you pop down after and watch, support our Beeston riders, or marshal or take down barriers after the event.

@ MarkN: That would be great. £1 fee to be paid when you sign Charlie in. You'll be given two numbers for him: the large one goes on his back the small one on his upper arm (normally the left one). We try to get there early enough for Fred to have at least 20 minutes to warm up. The under 9s now congregate behind the start line when a marshall blows a whistle. They are then lined up by age: the oldest at the front and the youngest at the back. The race starts at 12:00 and they race for seven minutes plus a lap. Look forward to seeing you there. Will you be able to get there earlier to help with set up?

It's just a field but there will be loos and normally there's a van selling food. I'm going to ride over in non-lycra. Aiming to get there for 8.30.

Just back after helping set up and watch the first couple of races feauturing Charlie and Freddy. If anyone feels like going out to help take stuff down there will be plenty to do. The course is a cracker, up and over ploughed fields and a couple of wooded sections. Very exposed though. Feel like I've done a 50 mile ride myself!

I would like to thank all the people who helped out today even though they don't race cross. I feel like you are really supporting the cyclo-cross riders in the club.

Hopefully next year some of you might be racing too.

@roberth - Despite the fact that I ride a few MTB XC events, I have to say that I would rather slit a vein than ride Cyclo-cross, however I am very happy to do my bit for the club and help out. As a spectator I really enjoyed it despite being frozen today!! Well done to singlespeedsteve - its hard enough on gears!!

Thanks to everyone that helped out at Draycott today. The organiser, Pete, was incredibly grateful for Beeston CC's assistance. Its success, and I think it was very successful, was partly down to us.

@ John - I'm thinking that I will look to secure a date for Bramcote in October at the AGM but if that isn't possible then yes, Draycott is a possibility (if the land owner's up for it).

A big, BIG thanks for all the support guys, it was fantastic to get so many 'shout outs' all the way round, even our friends from Long Eaton were being really supportive - hugely appreciated.

Shame Rob and Steve P didn't ride, would have been good to have a little more Beeston representation, but great that they helped contribute to organising such a good race, thanks one and all for putting the day together.

The race itself was surprisingly un-muddy given the weather in the last few days, but still a real tough grind, no let up... Stiff headwinds made for 'fake' hills, followed by more, and more climbing, hard.

Had a bit of a 'dip' early on, just struggled with my single gear, but got into a bit of a zone later and managed to claw back quite a few places. The cheers helped, sorry for the grumpy face and lack of response, but it's hard to reply when you're dying out your a***!

Results not yet in, hoping for top 40, but maye just outside. Hopefully we'll be back next year with a few more riders - including the return of Richard.

Thanks again to everyone.

PS Rob, for your info I was running 36x18, and managed to get up everything on that - just! Normally run 36x16 on everything, but too hilly for that yesterday.

Fred was 12th in the under 9s. He's disappointed - felt he could do better. He's going to work on his start again before Darley Moor on the 4th.

@ MarkN - Does Charlie fancy making the trip up to Darley Moor - the last race of the season?

@ John - Yes, I'll be trying to secure Bramcote in October. It's one of the more interesting venues in the NDCXL calendar and it would be a shame to lose it.

Your last chance is Feb 4th at Darley Moore near Ashbourne - a pan flat course, but don't be duped into thinking it will be easy!

The camera does lie, the ground was very heavy and uneven, longish grass in most sections and we sought out every mud pool in the final route run through.
