More details on the VCLE website.
Great start to the year.
Hang onto the front group and you might get home for lunch.

I quite fancy this - what's the chance of you riding slow enough that we can ride together?

climberruss15:04 Sat 31 Dec

I might ride with you Russ

I'm looking to try and get a tow around from the bunch, managed to hang on until Ashbourne last year.

richardb08:38 Sun 1 Jan

Done it the last 2 years, but mostly on my own as dropped on the first hill and then spent the time between groups, so to do it and have fun would be a novel experience!

Should be up for this albeit lacking in the stamina dept so far this year.

i'm a possible for a ride on sunday, however this is all on main roads isn't it?
i know this suited last year what with all the ice but i'd possibly look to do something a little quieter if i'm available.

Its been ok when riding in reasonably sized bunches. There were issues last year with the lead bunch being so big and stretched out for about 100m (I know 'cos I was hanging on at the back!). This made it very difficult and a little dangerous for traffic to overtake along the A52 Ashbourne road and there were issues with some riders getting aggressive and doing rude hand signals to vehicles trying to get through (Not BCC by the way). I really thought the riders should make gaps to allow the traffic to overtake safely rather than just assume the vehicle does not have the right to overtake.

i must admit that i got the dates wrong and i thought this was on this weekend!

markn15:31 Wed 25 Jan

I grew up in Ashbourne and travelled to Derby regularly. I still drive the A52 between the 2 at least once a week now. I have driven this road more than any other.

I've never cycled it for more than a few hundred yards to link up lanes! There are great routes on quiet lanes either side. The A52 is busy, narrow and twisty. Just not a good cycling road whether out with 100 or alone.

mat21:17 Tue 31 Jan

No it isn't, but it is gritted!!

mikew21:36 Tue 31 Jan

I did this last year. Busy roads don't bother me.
However, if you are thinking of a group ride - forget it unless you are fast. This is little more than a de-regulated road race! I got dropped after about 3 miles last year. This years aim - to hang on longer!!

9am from Attenborough Lane lights if you want to ride out with Steve and I, otherwise see you at the old Post Office.

Almost certainly off...

richardb20:17 Sat 4 Feb

Sledging then for me!
A52 out of nottingham at bramcote was barely passable tonight.

steveb21:31 Sat 4 Feb
