Ride time: 08:30 Sunday 29 Jan   3h

Meet at: Argos

Route: Undecided - possible Peak excursion

I've got some time on sunday morning so was looking to spend it riding.
(i haven't really got long enough to do the sunday steadies ride out to Belvoir)
Not sure about a route but was hoping to head out into the Peak for the first time this year - anyone available/interested.
Flexible on start time too.

Dictionary.com says

"travel from one place to another, especially on foot"

Won't you be finishing where you start? Can't see you making the Peak on foot in 2 - 3 hours.

Still probably worth using for the alliterative effect.

Possible Peak Pedant

markn13:21 Tue 24 Jan

Beat me to it Mat.
Isn't riding in the Peak in January illegal?

mikew14:05 Tue 24 Jan

Oh so riding in the peak is illegal, but riding 3 million miles to norfolk is entirely within the law???
it may be illegal for you weirdo's with "training plans" for those of us who simply enjoy riding a bike i believe that it is possible to cycle anywhere you want. Besides i'm gagging for a bit gradient.

markn14:23 Tue 24 Jan

used to do this route in the olden days,

takes in the delights of cloves, spanker(?), crich, cromford upto wirksworth, then drum enroute home...55 miles 3hrs 15ish if we don't hang about.

steveb20:56 Tue 24 Jan

The PD from Beeston is a tight squeeze in 2-3 hours...

Standard_jackass

@Steveb - like the route however not sure i've got the time for all of it - how about turning up holly lane / jackass lane from ambergate - that would reduce it to 45ish ?

markn08:58 Wed 25 Jan

sounds good to me

steveb13:03 Wed 25 Jan

cool.
anyone else fancy dusting off their climbing legs?
it will not be a "beat em up" just a steady ride into the hills with a nice tailwind home.

markn13:15 Wed 25 Jan

Last one to the top of Holly Lane is a sissy.

I'm washing my hair that morning. (trying to get a pass, fancy some hills)

guy14:13 Wed 25 Jan

Something like this?
www.bikely.com/...lane-Drum-A6005

'Beat em up' ride you say?
I'm in!

richardb17:38 Wed 25 Jan

this is nearly looking organised!

steveb18:33 Wed 25 Jan

Looking forward to it chaps - guy, have you washed your hair yet?

markn08:43 Thu 26 Jan

hmmm, seems a bit tangled at the moment. Think I need to change brands;-)

guy09:50 Thu 26 Jan

I'll join you if that's okay?
Although I am a little sore from last nights chain gang (sprinting too early and failing to hold as usual).
I will jump off at around Little Eaton on the way back as I have a Sunday lunch at the inlaws in Denby.

danw10:57 Thu 26 Jan

Drat and double drat, family walk in the woods with friends has been planned ironically in Ambergate woods next to Holly Lane - talk about rubbing salt in to the wounds!

guy16:20 Thu 26 Jan

Ideal for you Guy, ride out with us and meet them there, after washing the hair of course.

steveb21:55 Thu 26 Jan

Unfortunately the timing of my perm does not allow for this and neither does the wife!

guy09:33 Fri 27 Jan

I'll be bringing out my nice old roller on Sunday to give me a helping hand up the hills, starting with Cloves...

steveb12:31 Fri 27 Jan

A steamroller up Cloves, now that is something I might be able to overtake up there. Then I watched the video and I am not so sure.

guy13:22 Fri 27 Jan

i reckon i could beat it going down

markn13:23 Fri 27 Jan

Great footage. It's set the standard for tomorrow?!

andyb13:49 Fri 27 Jan

When I did the Asthma UK Bournemouth to Brighton ride last year, we had to overtake a steam engine on one of the big long climbs. Apart from the obvious smoke hazard, we had to work out when to overtake it (in the face of oncoming traffic) or forever be stuck in its smokey draft! Just one of the interesting challenges we had to face!

newsonoid17:32 Fri 27 Jan

Had to such Jim's century tomorrow to get chores done so I'm up for this instead

will21:44 Fri 27 Jan

It sounds like a bike kitted out with Campag!

mat21:49 Fri 27 Jan

I've got to stop posting on my phone, I meant ditch not such!

will23:28 Fri 27 Jan

Alternative plan if frosty tonight?
A6005-A6 Matlock and back would be my choice, divert up Belper lane if it thaws and do the hills the opposite way round?
See how it is in the morning?

richardb10:17 Sat 28 Jan

cool. w can assess the situation in the morning, at least it should all dry out today.

markn10:19 Sat 28 Jan

I'm running late, not had breakfast yet. Think I'll have to head out with Russ at 9.00. Enjoy your frosty hills!

will08:10 Sun 29 Jan

Sorry about the combination of dodgy mudguard and rubbish legs. Hope you all got back safe. Cheers lads.

danw12:38 Sun 29 Jan

great ride out today - just what i wanted.
nice to properly meet you danw (burning rubber!!) and martin (puncture in the home straight).
until the next time.

markn13:49 Sun 29 Jan

Thanks chaps. Can't believe I've never been up Holly Lane before. What a lovely surprise it was, glad I knew nothing of what was to come...
